Temporary structure between pavilions, Architecture College, Madrid

The pavilion was conceived as the body of a worm that creep, crawling on the existent buildings, possessing the in-between space.
It is supported by various arches that rest on the concrete structure of the college's buildings. The space is wrapped by a light textile membrane, which filters daylight and provides shelter.

A light structure was designed for temporary uses. It was our first aim to create a construction that needed of no laying foundations, to have the lowest impact in the land.
It was advisory, as well, to be able to adapt its shape to different necessities that may appear.
We thought of hyperbolic paraboloid as the best geometry since it is a ruled surface (can be built using only straight lines).
No foundations are needed because the structure is set on land by gravity. A heavy floor system is designed to guarantee stability. It consist on a plastic reinforced bag filled with water and an aluminium grid over it to secure rigidity.
The shelter function is performed by waterproof textile. Cloth is secured to wires by their own tension, which seizes pins sewed all around the textile pieces.
